Master of Teaching Arts
Modern & Contemporary American Poetry
Al Filreis
This course is a fast-paced introduction to modern and contemporary U.S. poetry, from Dickinson and Whitman to the present. Participants (who need no prior experience with poetry) will learn how to read poems that are supposedly “difficult.”
Dear FIX,
Yes, it's our final week of ModPo, and time for peer reviewing our last assignment. If you submitted an assignment, please now go back into the "writing assignments" module and evaluate at least four others' submissions. If you did not submit an assignment, please find and comment upon at least four others' assignments as they appear in the discussion forum.
We have received many expressions of delight over this creative (or: "uncreative"!) final project. Thanks to all those intrepid ModPo people who tried their hand at one of these experiments.
We have visitors this week. At least four of our poets are here with us in the forums: Kenneth Goldsmith, Christian Bök, Erica Baum and Tracie Morris. I am grateful to them for their willingness to participate in our discussions! The convergence of these four is rare, in any case! If you "encounter" them, please be sure to convey what it's been like reading (and looking and hearing) their work. They appreciate an audience, whether the response is positive or doubtful.
Mark your calendars: we convene one last time for a live webcast session on Monday, November 19, at 12 noon eastern time. If you can travel to the Kelly Writers House in Philadelphia, please join us there!
